Collaboration on XMind

Lisa Sep 21, 2017 03:05AM HKT

I was wondering if it is possible for multiple users to share one xmind project, similar to how good docs has the ability to share docs and have multiple users edit/update in real time.

Is this a feature that will be added in the future if it is not currently available?

I've seen this question asked a lot, but haven't found a clear answer.

Lisa,

I assume you're referring to Google docs.

There are several postings about collaboration. As I've stated in one discussion (for the record, I'm just a fellow user, not a Xmind employee), the whole thing boils down to two issues:

a) at what level you want to collaborate (map, sheet, branch or topic)
b) how to handle simultaneous writes

Essential here is the locking level, i.e. what is the unit of work only one user can work on at a time. Locking on the map (i.e. file) level is easy, but many (incl. me) want locking on a more granular level (branch would be good). These lower levels are not trivial to implement (heck, even Microsoft's web-browser editing uses a text line as the locking level and that kinda sucks).

I think that Xmind Inc. has their hands full of ironing out glitches in their cloud service, so that I wouldn't hold my breath for any online collaboration any time soon. Of course, I might be completely wrong.

And as always when someone says "collaboration", someone else thinks about Sharepoint, so see
