Version 7 Slow, Ideas?

Garibai Nov 27, 2015 09:37PM HKT

Hello. In short, my current version is slow after the recent (and my first) update, seems especially slow when undoing/deleting items. No clue why it became like this.

I'm planning to roll back to previous version, I think it was version 6? I recall it had a different UI.

My versions are below, is there anything else I can provide that could be helpful?

XMind 7 (v3.6.0.R-201511090408).
Win 7 Ultimate 64bit.

I have returned to version 6 from an upgrade to 7. It is very slow to the point of being unusable. Theoretically a desirable upgrade but in practice, no way.

I'm finding the same with Xmind 7 Pro. It's painfully slow and seems like there is a delay before any action is processed. I've rolled back to Xmind 6 and it's so much quicker.

I don't mind the new Xmind 7 interface, but it doesn't really add any required functionality, plus it would be nice if you could change the colour of the window border (the light blue colour). I also miss the home map setting which seems to have been removed in 7, could we have this as well as the Recent tab?

Anyway hopefully the slowness in 7 is a bug that gets sorted soon and then I'll go back to 7 again.

Cheers
PJ

Me too. I can live with it on an Intel i7 with SSD, but I notice that some operations are incredibly slow. Saving to network share: 30 seconds or more. Local save of smallest file: a second or two. Changing structure on a tree with only 17 nodes: several seconds. Various other operations lag. On weaker machines I can imagine it would be annoying. My guess is that some new source for version 7 needs optimizing.

7 is significantly slower than 6. Eats battery as crazy on a laptop. Memory usage is high as well.

I did as suggested on another thread and turned off updates and checking for news in the Settings.

It still lags bad on 4k when I zoom out to 20% but it seems to be working some better.

In my case - Linux, i7, 8 GB RAM, SSD 850 Pro - it is slow as well.
Unusable practically.

Updated from 7.0 (which was slow), now it is even worse.

Unusable!

What helped me (Xmind 7.5 on Ubuntu 16.04 amd64): Start XMind via a shell script:

#/bin/sh
export SWT_GTK3=0
/usr/bin/XMind

Disabling GTK3 not only fixed an issue with the prefs dialog (pref editors not changing with altered selection) but also speeds up normal things like node selection and navigation.

Version 8 pro with I7 16GB RAM SSD. Super Features but:

So slow, unusable!

Copy / delete/ Drag and drop, Clipart, presentation....everything is unendless slow.

Please do something, cause it's impossible to work with Xmind.

Hi Oliver... can you (or someone) explain to a layperson how to disable GTK3?

Thank you!

+1, v7 is dramatically slow even when I browse a map with middle mouse.
Also, there is memory leak - it uses 1Gb already (when moving map, it increases) !!! It's awful ;(

v3.5.2 is last comfortably usable (260MB memory + fast)
v3.5.3 is fast enought, but uses x2 memory (400MB while browse and zooming)

Hi all. I had the same problems - v8 CPU out the roof and cooking my laptop.

You can fix this in Ubuntu via the unity launcher command. Some of you may want to do the same. The launcher for XMind in my installation was:

~/.local/share/applications/xmind.desktop

I altered the "Exec" command by adding an environment variable. Here is the text I added which disables GTK3 for Xmind:

env SWT_GTK3=0

and the resulting line:

Exec=env SWT_GTK3=0 /usr/bin/java -Dfile.encoding=UTF-8 -jar /usr/local/bin/xmind/XMind_amd64//../plugins/org.eclipse.equinox.launcher_1.3.200.v20160318-1642.jar -os linux -ws gtk -arch x86_64 -showsplash -launcher /usr/local/bin/xmind/XMind_amd64/XMind -name XMind --launcher.library /usr/local/bin/xmind/XMind_amd64//../plugins/org.eclipse.equinox.launcher.gtk.linux.x86_64_1.1.400.v20160518-1444/eclipse_1617.so -startup /usr/local/bin/xmind/XMind_amd64//../plugins/org.eclipse.equinox.launcher_1.3.200.v20160318-1642.jar --launcher.overrideVmargs -exitdata d0000f -configuration ./configuration -data ../workspace -eclipse.keyring @user.home/.xmind/secure_storage_linux -vm /usr/bin/java -vmargs -Dfile.encoding=UTF-8 -jar /usr/local/bin/xmind/XMind_amd64//../plugins/org.eclipse.equinox.launcher_1.3.200.v20160318-1642.jar

Seeing slowness with 7.5 which is very irritating.

Also using Moo0 System Monitor - which showed spikes of work AND a burst of network activity... ??

I'm on Ethernet, so unplugged it. Guess what? Instantly faster!

Looks like Xmind 7.5 is either phoning home on every action or supposes it is on the Cloud (which it isn't) and has to rediscover that on every action :((

Borked!

:(

so just disconnect your web access. Hah.
