Synchronisation between Windows 10, Mac and iOS

Heinz Horst Feb 02, 2018 02:39PM HKT

I just recently bought the xmind Zen-Version "Desktop + iOS (XMind: ZEN + XMind for iOS)" for about 30 EUR. How can I synchronise between my three different devices running with Windows 10, MacOS and iOS?

Heinz,

For synchronisation between MS Windows 10 and MacOS you can use any cloud storage service (Dropbox, Google Drive, Icloud, OneDrive etc.). For smooth operation choose one that integrates with the file manager of OS (MS Explorer resp. Finder by default; all those four forementioned do).

There is in Ios 11 a new app by Apple, that replaces the Icloud app and opens a way (API) for other apps to use it as a file manager. IIRC, at least Dropbox for Ios supports it, I don't know, how it's with others. I haven't updated my Iphone to Ios 11 yet (the phone might not have enough memory for it), so I can't say, how smoothly or whether at all you can use other cloud storage services than Icloud.

There is a caveat with installing Icloud on MS Windows. You must have a MS Windows version with MS media extensions, i.e. not a N edition (e.g. my work computer is running MS Windows 10 Enterprise N as demanded by company policy). Why it is this way, is beyond my comprehension, but I have a gut feeling, that this is not so much because of technical issues but because of agreements between MS and Apple.

Dear Juha,

thank you very much for your thorough information. I am still about to run through all approaches you suggested. First I had to realise finally, that there is no such thing as a xmind cloud provided any more, which seemed to me a bit more comfortable. Communication between windows 10 ans iOS runs smoothly. Seemingly no windows N edition on my machine. I still have to find out if it's as easy with MacOS within the next days, but I do not expect any problems.

If you could install Icloud on your MS Windows machine, they you indeed not have any N edition.

There were so much synchronisation issues with Xmind Cloud reported by users, that it could not be recommended for any other use than testing. Given how smoothly those cloud storage services by those big players integrate with MS Windows and Mac OS, I failed to see any market for Xmind Cloud, even if it had worked.
