Insert ascii symbols

Would really love to have a tab or a floating window that would pop-out to show ascii symbols. Similar to how word and google docs does it. A great feature on top of it would be to search the ascii symbol by drawing it. 

Alternately one can consider using the OS's native ascii chart to pop-up with a shortcut key and use that to enter the symbol.
