Cannot Open New Map from Library or Templates

I am using a Mac and the desktop app.  I cannot open any maps from the Templates or Library area. I am only able to open a map by going to recent and then using the plus sign.

Does anyone know how to resolve this?  I am exploring XMind as a replacement for Mind Manager.
