Side by Side / Split Screen
I've made a mind map - its huge .. now I want to start factoring it down and breaking all the random scatterings of ideas into structure ..
Easiest way to do that is to create a new map .. side by side .. and drag them over one by one ..
Except there is no side by side view in XMind 8 ... nor can I split the screen .. nor can I launch another instance ....
I had to export it to a web browser and then re-type the ideas into a new XMind - frustrating.

I discovered a workaround that gives you some of the functionality of a true side-by-side, with the ability to copy/paste from the "source" to the open Xmind map. You can not copy graphic elements, and you will need to re-generate the nodes in the target map.
Here is the technique I use:
Open the "source" map, and print it. Select multiple pages, landscape mode, 1 page horizontal width, and as many vertical pages as needed. Use the virtual print device "Microsoft XPS Document Writer". Hit print, and save the output to a file.
The resulting .oxps file looks similar to a PDF print output, but the text fields within the print image are select-able and can be copy/pasted into an open Xmind map. You need to re-create any new nodes in the open map, but you don't need to re-enter all the text.
If you should output to a PDF file, most of the PDF virtual printers create a pure graphic image of the whole mind map page, and you can't copy/paste text from the graphic image easily.
I agree .... some form of side-by-side display of two XMind maps should be available. Toggling back and forth between multiple tabs in the existing XMind application is too tedious.

I did not mention ... once the xps file is created, you need to open it to display this now-static read-only image of the mind map diagram with copy/paste -able text. If the Microsoft standard XPS viewer is already installed, you just double-click on the .oxps file.
You then open your "target" XMind diagram using the Xmind application, and you can operate side-by-side. The mode of operation is one-way only ... from the .oxps file viewer TO -> the Xmind map diagram.
